Barnsley FC vs Blackpool fc match review
On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Blackpool FC secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Barnsley FC at Oakwell Stadium in their League One encounter. The match saw Blackpool's Sonny Carey netting two goals, while Ashley Fletcher added another, bringing his season tally to eight and making him the club's top scorer for the season, This win elevated Blackpool to 11th place in the league standings, while Barnsley remained in 10th position. The result marked a significant triumph for Blackpool, reflecting their recent positive form in the league as the seasiders try and make a last ditch effort for the play-offs but probably requires the tangerines winning each one of their last games but looks very unlikely with the some of the games against Birmingham, Wrexham and Leyton Orient who are challenging games which can decide our season earlier than we want
The first half was action packed we either teams testing the goalkeepers with the Bruce’s side looking more likely to score however went into the break with the sides level after some promising chances which should of been put away by Carey who should of had a hat-trick in the first half. however a quick start to the second saw Carey get his second goal in the league after a few promising performances scored from long range with the keeper making a meal of it and should of saved it but i’m not complaining for the first goal in 56th minute. The second goal only 8 minutes later coming from a great ball from Albie Morgan which his usual these days straight onto Fletcher’s head within the 6 yard box beating the keeper yet again taking Fletch to 8 goals for the year and Morgan to 7 assists just one off the league leader with 8 so, looks like if he keeps his form till the end of the season he is going places probably the championship with how good he’s been this year. Finally Carey got his second even though he should of at least had an hat-trick by now as he got on the end of a deflected ball after the keeper made 1-on-1 save against Ennis but fell kindly for Sonny who doubled his tally for the day taking him to 6 goals in all competition but looked very good coming off the left with Coulsen over-lapping made him look very good and worked well.
Personally, from this game shows that we have got it in us to do well however we have left it too late in the season to beat some of these better teams in but showing it now like I said before with Morgan being the best player in the league at the moment in my opinion, the lad is going places and will be shocked if he does not get a big move to championship club in the next window. To go onto Carey had a very good game not a great one because for some reason he can’t put shots on target sometimes from about 5 yards out and could of really had a hat-trick by half time but made it count in the end but the likes of Coulsen and Apter make this team work with their driving runs which we need so, that we can have players like Morgan, Carey, Ennis and Fletcher into good positions and is unfortunate that Apter does not have more assists than what he has if we were more clinical we would be up near the top. Overall the game was a good showing shame we couldn’t be like this for the majority of the season and especially at home which is similar to Barnsley who are better away than they are home who again might miss out on play-offs.
